Cana

Cana is an ancient city in Galilee, and the location where Jesus performed the first of His miracles.

His first miracle was the transforming of water into wine, as described in John 2. Later in John 4, Jesus met a nobleman here who begged Him to come to Capernaum and heal his son. Jesus did heal his son, but while He remained in Cana, about 20 miles away.

Cana was also the home of Nathaniel, one of Jesus' apostles (John 21:2), and church structures in Cana today make mention of Nathaniel. It is also believed that Nathaniel was known as Bartholomew in the lists of apostles in the Gospel accounts.

This vessel, approximately 20-30 gallons in capacity, is alleged to have been one of the six that Jesus filled in turning the water to wine (John 2:6). According to the New Testament, this was the first miracle that Jesus performed.
