The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is located in the southeastern region of Israel, bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel to the west. This body of water is noteworthy for a couple of reasons. First, it is the lowest point  on Earth, with water levels 1412 feet below sea level. It is also a hypersaline body of water, meaning it has a very high salt content at more than 31% salt concentration. The high salinity means that animals and plants cannot live in these waters, giving the Dead Sea its name. And the salt lake is the deepest hypersaline body in the world, with a depth of nearly 1000 feet. The Sea is fed by the Jordan River, though in recent years the flow from the Jordan has been reduced.
