Philip
When Herod the Great died, Philip was made the tetrarch of Trachonitis and Iturea north and east of the Sea of Galilee (Luke 3:1). He ruled from 4 B.C. till A.D. 34 and was considered a thoughtful, fair ruler. The capital city of Panion (today's Banias) he rebuilt and renamed Caesarea; thus it became known as Caesarea Philippi (the Caesarea of Philip). He married Salome, the daughter of his half-brother Herod Philip and wife Herodias (see Mark 6:21-29). It was Salome who, at Herodias' instruction, asked for John the Baptist's head after she danced for Herod Antipas.
Philip ruled the green territory for nearly forty years.
